 BRITISH MUSEUM - RISER MODULES
CLIENT - MICHAEL J. LONSDALE MAIN CONTRACTOR - MACE CONSULTANT - ARUP
The British Museum was one of our first major pre-fabrication projects in which we installed several external riser banks. The steel frames were fully designed by B&R in accordance with ARUP’s services design and built with internal hidden connection details in order to achieve the aesthetics brief required.
Each riser bank was fully built within our Kent facility in its 30m long final configuration before being electrically and acoustically tested and witnessed by the consultant, before then being broken down into transportable segments and taken to site.
These sections were then lifted via full contract lift and fixed together all under the same sub-contact package to B&R. Each riser bank was installed over a few days and in some instances 250m of ductwork and 6 tonne of powder coated steelwork was installed in each install thus greatly reducing time onsite as well as reducing normal ongoing costs such as fixed scaffolding. B&R then carried out the final building interfacing including additional support back to the World Heritage building fabric as well as installing floating access platforms for fan maintenance.
